People encouraged to check their State Pension forecast

Research from HMRC reveals one in eight adults (12.5%) have never checked their State Pension forecast which is equivalent to approximately 6.9 million UK adults.

Research from HMRC reveals one in eight adults (12.5%) have never checked their State Pension forecast which is equivalent to approximately 6.9 million UK adults.

The research also revealed 45 to 54-year-olds are more likely than any other age group to have never checked their forecast even though this is a key time for pension planning.

Accordingly, HMRC is taking the opportunity during Pension Awareness week (15 to 18 September) to remind people to check their pension forecast so they can understand what to expect and plan accordingly.

HMRC are encouraging individuals to download the HMRC app which allows users to check their State Pension forecast, understand any potential gaps in their National Insurance record, and potentially top up their contributions.

Myrtle Lloyd, HMRC's Chief Customer Officer, states:

'It's never too early, or too late, to check your State Pension forecast. Checking your forecast on the HMRC app takes just a few minutes but can make a real difference to how prepared you feel for the future.'
